Who We Are
Julio Antonio Apolinaris aka DJ AMP
Julio was exposed to various aspects of music at an early age
while living in Puerto Rico, where a large number of family and
church members were vocalists and folk musicians.
An early attempt to fulfill his dreams of becoming a DJ were temporarily derailed
when all the equipment he bought overseas while stationed in Japan was stolen when
shipped home.
It wasn’t until 1993 when Julio got his first chance to play Salsa. At the request of a
friend he joined a newly formed band on Long Island (Orchestra Kaoba) as a Bass
player. Several months later he was voted as leader of the band and eventually
branched off forming his own Salsa band (Orchestra Noble) named after the street he
lives on.
As a student of Latin music at the renowned Boys Harbor School in Manhattan,
Julio began to feel the need to get more involved with more of the classic sounds of
the typical Conjuntos which led to the formation of his 2nd Latin band which went
by the name of Julio Antonio y su Conjunto Moderno.
Feeling the need to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a DJ, Julio decided to disband
the Conjunto in order to concentrate perfecting his skills as a Disc Jockey.
Julio has extensive experience providing music entertainment at Weddings, Sweet 16’
s, Dances, Private Parties as well as regularly working as a Club DJ in popular Latin
Night Clubs such as City Lounge, Salsa Rumba, Cabana Grill, La Hamaca, and most
recently Oasis Night Club.
